Siberian miners’ lettuce

Siberian Miners’ Lettuce is a member of the purslane family and it had a variety of medicinal uses among aboriginal peoples in coastal BC. It’s related to the traditional miners’ lettuce which was used as a spring salad green.

Unfolding into summer ….

The season for fiddleheads is past, and ferns are now unfolding into summer. These sword ferns (Polystichum munitum) are a fixture of the west coast woods.
